      Forum on Child Poverty and Development

      On May 26, 2011, the Foreign Capital Project Management Center of LGOP (hereinafter the FCPMC) and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICE) jointly held the first Forum on “Child Poverty and Development” in Hangzhou. Nearly one hundred people attended the event, including representatives of the Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Civil Affairs, Ministry of Education and other relevant ministries of the State Council, provincial (autonomous region) poverty alleviation departments and relevant international agencies as well as well-known experts and scholars in related fields. Deputy Director-General Zheng Wenkai and UNICE representative Ms. Gillian Mellsop attended the event and delivered a speech respectively. Themed “concerning about child poverty to promote child development”, the participants shared the experience in the research and practice of international and domestic child poverty and the forum publicized and advocated the concept of concerning about China’s child poverty and explored the establishment of effective modes and patterns for Chinese intervention in child poverty.

      International Symposium on the Social Inclusion of Asia's Emerging Middle-income Countries

      On September 13, 2011, themed “social inclusion of Asia's emerging middle-income countries”, the Asian regional forum was convened in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The event was jointly sponsored by the Asian Development Bank, International Poverty Reduction Center in China, International Labor Organization and the Indonesia National Development Planning Agency, and was supported by 13 Asian research institutes including Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies. More than 60 policy-makers and practitioners from Asian governments, think tanks, bilateral development agencies and intergovernmental bodies attended the event.

      China-ASEAN Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction

      From September 14 to 16, 2011, the 5th China-ASEAN Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction was held in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. It was jointly sponsored by LGOP and Indonesia National Development Planning Agency and co-organized by LGOP and its relevant partners. Vice Chairman of CPPCC and Honorary President of China Association of Poverty Alleviation and Development Li Jinhua, Indonesian Minister of People's Welfare Agung Laksono (Vice-prime level), Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN Sayakane Sisouvong and ADB Vice-President Ursula Schaefer-Preuss attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech respectively. Director-General Fan Xiaojian delivered a keynote speech and held a press conference with the participating foreign senior officials. More than 200 representatives from China, ASEAN countries and relevant international institutions attended the event and conducted extensive and in-depth discussions and field research on “the quality of growth and poverty reduction”.

      Poverty Reduction and Development Forum - 10.17 Forum

      In order to commemorate the 19th International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, approved by the State Council, jointly sponsored by LGOP and the UN System in China, co-organized by International Poverty Reduction Centre in China and UNDP China, the Poverty Reduction and Development Forum to mark 2011 "International Day for the Eradication of Poverty" and the first YouChange Poverty Alleviation Scientific Research Award Conference was held in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on October 17. Hui Liangyu, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of the State Council and the Head of the State Council Leading Group of Poverty Alleviation and Development attended the opening ceremony, awarded prizes to the winners and delivered a speech. Director-General Fan Xiaojian presided over the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech at the forum. UNDP Director Helen Clark attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Nobel laureate in economics James Morris was invited to the forum and deliver a keynote speech. 16 Chinese and foreign minister-level representatives and more than 300 domestic and foreign people were present at the event and explored ways to achieve sustainable poverty reduction with the theme of “improvement of people's livelihood and sustainable poverty reduction".

      International Strategic Conference on Eradicating Extreme Poverty

      From November 16 to 18, 2011, the International Strategic Conference on Eradicating Extreme Poverty was jointly held by IPRCC and Social Prosperity Advisory Group Agency and subsidiaries of Columbia’s Presidential Agency. The two sides conducted comparative research on their cooperation at the beginning of that year. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos sent a video message to congratulate on the conference. The conference has invited representatives from such countries and organizations as South Korea, Brazil, Chile, Peru and American Development Bank. IPRCC sent three experts to comprehensively introduce issues related to China’s urban poverty and social security, China’s poverty reduction and development in rural areas, food security and poverty, achievements, experience and practices of China over the past three decades of reform and opening up as well as the outlook of China’s future.
